The Conformist

I almost want to say that I can't fairly rate this film as I couldn't tightly grasp the story being told. Sure, I vaguely know, but nothing more. The cinematography in most scenes was just remarkable (as I had expected and really why I was seeking this out). Looks like I'll just have to watch this a few more times.

Hey follow cinephile blogger,
I just watched this film for the first time too and I think I got it. As far as I can tell it's a scathing attack against those who conform to fascism, that they are consciously repressing their guilt. Conforming in some ways is a psychotic defense mechanism -- which you see very clearly at the end when our hero starts accusing the homosexual for killing the professor.
In addition I think the film calls into question whether or not political opinions are without personal baggage.
Do what you will with that -- I hope it helps.
