Someone's getting lazy....
And I'll disagree with you on this film. For what it is (a mangled Cassavetes film) it's not too terrible.
I AM getting lazy! Work & school haven't left me much time lately.
I liked Burt Lancaster in this, but thought Judy Garland was just annoying with her constantly doe-eyed stares. Also, I felt like the screenwriter didn't know how the main character was; it was too split between Judy and Burt for me.
I think Cassavetes disowned this...I bet he'd agree with me!!
Garland is pretty bizarre in her insecurities and drug-addled ways, but overall I thought the acting was pretty great. I thought the story with the boy was rather disturbing, actually the whole interacting with the mentally retarded children was very well done.
According to Carney, Cassavetes disliked how Kramer cut all the dramatic scenes with music and normative editing. But I guess when I saw it I was expecting something dreadful, and I was pleasantly surprised.
